Sue Wood is a Registered Nurse and Certified
Bariatric Nurse, with membership in the ASMBS
and the OAC. She has worked in the field of
bariatric surgery as a Program Manager for
WellStar Health Systems for five years.
Currently more than 400 patients are listed as
members of the WellStar Weight Loss Wonders
Support Group. With three separate monthly
meetings, the program serves patients from a
variety of local surgeons.
Sue works closely with the WellStar Bariatric
Program Director, Dr. Dennis Smith. She
coordinates care through the WellStar Bariatric
Surgery Team, consisting of the Program
Coordinator, Data Analyst, Behavioral Health,
Dietary, Nursing Administration, Nursing
Managers and staff in the facilities ICUs, PACU,
PATT, WOC, Imaging, Emergency Services and
Respiratory Services, as well as Facilities
Engineering and Environmental Services. She has
learned that it takes the efforts of a team to
truly have a Center of Excellence.

Anisa Grantham is a Psychotherapist and National
Certified Addiction Counselor. She has over 20
years experience in the field of addiction
counseling/training. She is a bariatric patient
(2002) and has spent much of the last 6 years
focusing on food addiction and working with
clients prepare and succeed with weight loss
surgery. She facilitates monthly bariatric
support groups and has offered her
professional/personal experience to speak with
local groups and hospital programs. Anisa lives
in coastal Georgia with her husband of 8 years
and 13 year old dog Rebos. In her spare time
she enjoys gardening and traveling.

experience in corporate America in the field of
Executive Coaching, Leadership Assessment &
Development, and Organizational Behavior.
Through a series of life changing events in 2009
he re-focused his life’s mission and career in
order to provide education/training, coaching
support, inspirational guest speaking, and
research in the area of obesity and eating
disorders. Prior to his experience in corporate
America he has served in executive positions
within healthcare organizations and as a K-12
school administrator.
Dr. Curtiss is currently
writing his memoir The Miracle Man
chronicling his life’s journey as an individual
struggling with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) and
obesity for the past seven years. He holds an
advanced doctoral degree from the University of
South Florida in Tampa. He is a certified
facilitator and bariatric coach and is
affiliated with the Bariatric Support Center in
Salt Lake City, UT.

a licensed psychologist who works with surgical
weight loss patients. She recently wrote Eat
It Up: The Complete Mind/Body/Spirit Guide to a
Full Life After Weight Loss Surgery. She
also writes magazine articles and speaks at
conferences on preventing weight regain. Her
videos on the topic are on YouTube. Dr.
Stapleton has worked in the field of recovery
from any addiction for two decades.
Dr.
Stapleton is originally from Iowa. She and her
family moved to Texas where she obtained her
Ph.D. in psychology from Texas A&M University.
Now in Augusta, GA, Dr. Stapleton has a thriving
private practice, Mind/Body Health Services.
Dr. Stapleton refers to herself
as her patients’ “Recovery Conscience” because
they often tell her they hear her voice
reminding them of ways to do “the next right
thing” in their everyday lives. Her motto is “My
